On this working day in 1954, word got out that the Hilton Resort chain was set to choose over the Shamrock Hilton in the coming weeks.

At the time, the hotel was owned by the Equitable Lifetime Assurance Culture, which acquired the resort in 1952 from oilman Glenn McCarthy. He bought the resort, along with McCarthy Oil and Gas Company, to settle a $35 million debt owed to Equitable. 

During equally bargains, McCarthy stayed on as resort president.

In other information, a Harris County grand jury issued a report that mainly concentrated on the dilemma of juvenile delinquency below. The grand jury identified as out the prevalence of beer joints and “tourist courts” that rented out cabins by the hour “to both of those grownups and juveniles to deliver younger girls and other females there for immoral reasons.”
